Omega 3 protects against kidney diseases
A new study reveals that higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids found in seafood are associated with a lower risk of chronic kidney disease and slower kidney function.
No protective relationship for kidney function was found with higher levels of plant omega-3s.
The study was published in the British Medical Journal and although the link between marine omega-3s and the prevention of kidney disease was modest, it is enough to support the recommendation to eat seafood for kidney health.
The study was conducted by a team from the University of New South Wales and the George Institute for Global Health and was based on data from 12 previous studies looking at the kidney's ability to remove waste and its relationship to the omega-3 group . fatty acids.
The World Health Organization reports that 700 million people worldwide suffer from chronic kidney disease.
Omega-3 acids are found in nuts, seeds, avocados and olive oil, as well as seafood such as salmon, sardines, tuna, mackerel, shrimp, oysters and crabs
