India beat South Africa by 135 runs: Fourth T20 – as it happened

Victorious India captain Suryakumar reflected on his team’s performance at the post-match presentation.

“There is no secret to adapting to the situations,” he said. “Our plans were very clear as soon as we arrived. Last time we came here we played the same brand of cricket.

“Even though we were 2-1 up, we wanted to follow the same process and not think about the results. It was amazing batting skills displayed by Abhishek [Sharma], Sanju [Samson] and Tilak [Varma]. They spoke about it and they walked the talk.

“We knew there was something in the wicket after the lights come on and the temperature drops. We just stuck with it and kept to our lines, and the result followed.

“It gives a big boost if you win any ICC tournament. The way we won that was incredible. It is always challenging to tour South Africa to play and win before going back home. This will stay with me forever.”

Losing South Africa captain Markram shared his thoughts at the post-match presentation.

“Quite hard to be honest. Ultimately we were completely outplayed in all three aspects of the game.

We couldn’t put the game together and have to give them a lot of credit,” he said.

“They put us under a lot of pressure with both bat and ball. We need some good honest reflections to take place now.

“Nowadays you can’t just bowl at the stumps, you have to use from wide line to wide line. I suppose you will be happy to miss one or two, but we need to get better at execution. Can’t have 10-15 [wides] a game.

“Hopefully in the long run, as we build up to 2026, we get those things right. As a white-ball team we have some time off now. We can get stuck in to some work and come back as better players. We need better execution, which is what really matters.

“I thought Marco [Jansen] and [Gerald] Coetzee were terrific in the series. The never-say-die attitude from them was really good to see.”
